“Originally from Soldotna, Alaska, Dr. Dave Houglum earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Leadership from Gonzaga University (Spokane, Washington). Dr. Houglum is currently the Director of Leadership and Leadership Professor of Practice in the Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation at the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon. He has also served as an adjunct faculty at Gonzaga University for the past 10 years, teaching master’s level leadership courses to students in the School of Leadership Studies and School of Law. Previously, he was the Director of the Moreau Center for Service and Leadership at the University of Portland. He also oversaw the Ignatian Leadership Institute at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. He has a passion for leadership, service, and justice and has led global courses and experiences in locations such as Zambia, Nicaragua, the Philippines, India, and New Zealand. He served on the nonprofit Board of Directors for the Maybelle Center for Community for six years in Portland, including two years as the Board Secretary on the Executive Board.
He is a published writer and serves as a scholarly manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Leadership Education and Journal of Leadership Studies and has presented at the International Leadership Association’s Global Conferences most recently in Brussels, Belgium; West Palm Beach, Florida; Ottawa, Canada; and San Francisco, California (virtual). Additionally, he is a certified professional leadership and executive coach who helps people deepen their knowledge, skills, and mindsets as leaders and make forward progress concerning their professional and organizational goals.”
